Safety RemindersWelding Helmet
Use shade 10–12 lens for SMAW. Auto-darkening helmets recommended. Never watch the
arc unprotected.
Ventilation & Fumes
Ensure adequate ventilation. Use fume extraction when welding galvanized, coated,
or stainless steel. Never weld in confined spaces without supplied-air.
PPE Required
Dry leather gloves, welding jacket or leathers, steel-toed boots, and long pants.
No synthetic fabrics — they melt.
Electrical Safety
Properly ground the workpiece. Inspect cables and electrode holder for damage.
Never hold electrode with bare hands. Keep dry.
Fire Watch
Clear combustibles from 35ft radius. Have fire extinguisher accessible. Post a fire
watch for 30 min after welding.
Electrode Storage
E7018 low-hydrogen rods must be stored in a rod oven at 250–300°F. Recondition at
600–700°F for 1–2 hrs if moisture-exposed.
