Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify the actual input source and its voltage or current capability.
  2. Inspect plug or interface, cord, switch, and visible external damage.
  3. If the unit is dead on a verified source, escalate.

2. Powers up but no welding output

  1. Prove MMA output first with known-good dry electrodes.
  2. Inspect clamp and holder for heat damage or broken strands.
  3. If MMA is abnormal with known-good leads and source, escalate core inverter diagnosis.

3. Feed, arc-start, or cut-start problem

  1. For TIG complaints, verify lift-TIG setup, gas flow, torch valve, and tungsten prep.
  2. If MMA is healthy, stay in the TIG accessory path until proven otherwise.
  3. Portable source limitations can mimic start problems, so verify supply capability before deeper teardown.

4. Poor arc quality / unstable output

  1. Inspect source quality, lead heating, and work-return quality.
  2. Use dry electrodes and clean work for MMA testing.
  3. Mobile instability commonly belongs to the source and lead path before the inverter.
  4. If the complaint follows one portable source or battery arrangement, keep the diagnosis outside the machine first.

5. Gas and consumable related faults

  1. For TIG use, verify actual gas flow, torch-hose integrity, and tungsten or cup condition.
  2. Inspect collet, back cap, and clamp contact.
  3. Porosity or poor starts usually belong to the accessory path first.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Check fan operation and blocked airflow.
  2. Inspect lead heating and connector condition after load.
  3. Repeated thermal or fault behavior with a verified source should be escalated.
