Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify actual receptacle voltage and eliminate light-duty extension cords.
  2. Inspect plug, cord, switch, and visible external damage.
  3. If the machine remains dead on verified input, escalate.

2. Powers up but no welding output

  1. Start with MMA using known-good dry electrodes.
  2. Inspect the work clamp and electrode holder for heating or broken strands.
  3. If MMA output is absent with known-good leads, escalate core inverter diagnosis.

3. Feed, arc-start, or cut-start problem

  1. For TIG complaints, remember this class depends heavily on correct lift-TIG setup and a torch with gas valve unless otherwise equipped.
  2. Verify gas flow, valve position, tungsten prep, and clamp quality.
  3. If MMA is good and TIG is poor, stay in the TIG accessory path until proven otherwise.

4. Poor arc quality / unstable output

  1. Confirm dry electrodes and clean work surface.
  2. Inspect cable heating, connector tightness, and line voltage sag.
  3. Portable inverters are sensitive to undersized cords and poor utility power.

5. Gas and consumable related faults

  1. For TIG, verify bottle pressure, regulator flow, hose integrity, and torch valve operation.
  2. Regrind tungsten and inspect cup/collet condition.
  3. Porosity or erratic starts on lift-TIG are usually accessory-side problems first.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Check ventilation openings and fan behavior.
  2. Inspect lead heating at the clamp and holder.
  3. If the unit trips or derates early under normal use, escalate.
