Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify input voltage and eliminate questionable cords or weak generators.
  2. Inspect plug, switch, and visible impact damage.
  3. Escalate if the machine remains dead on verified input.

2. Powers up but no welding output

  1. Prove MMA output first with known-good dry electrodes.
  2. Inspect work clamp and electrode holder for heat damage and broken strands.
  3. If MMA is abnormal with known-good leads, escalate core inverter diagnosis.

3. Feed, arc-start, or cut-start problem

  1. For TIG complaints, verify the lift-TIG torch setup, gas flow, valve position, and tungsten condition.
  2. If MMA works normally, avoid chasing the power section until TIG accessories are proven.
  3. Poor clamp contact is a common cause of erratic lift-TIG starts.

4. Poor arc quality / unstable output

  1. Check supply quality, lead heating, and clamp bite.
  2. Use dry electrodes and clean work for MMA testing.
  3. Portable inverter arc instability is often installation-related rather than internal.

5. Gas and consumable related faults

  1. Verify actual gas flow and torch hose integrity for TIG use.
  2. Inspect cup, collet, and tungsten condition.
  3. Porosity or unstable starts on lift-TIG normally belong to the front end first.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Check fan operation and blocked air passages.
  2. Inspect clamp and holder leads after load for heating.
  3. Repeated faults with normal ambient conditions and light load should be escalated.
