Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify the actual input source and remove extension cords/adapters where possible.
  2. Inspect the plug and cord for heat or transport damage.
  3. If dead on a verified supply, escalate.

2. Powers up but no welding output

  1. Inspect holder and clamp leads plus front connectors.
  2. Retest with dry known-good rods on bright steel.
  3. If there is still no usable output, escalate.

3. Feed, arc-start, or cut-start problem

  1. Most stick-start complaints are work-return and rod-condition problems first.
  2. For lift-TIG complaints, verify gas path, tungsten, torch valve, and connection arrangement.
  3. If stick output is healthy, treat TIG complaints as accessory-side until proven otherwise.

4. Poor arc quality / unstable output

  1. Separate 120 V expectation issues from real machine instability.
  2. Inspect output connectors, clamp, and holder for heating or looseness.
  3. Escalate only after instability is confirmed on a solid source with known-good leads and dry rods.

5. Gas and consumable related faults

  1. Lift-TIG use requires correct gas flow, hose sealing, tungsten prep, and torch condition.
  2. Porosity and bad starts should be treated as gas/torch faults first.
  3. Regrind tungsten and simplify the setup before escalating.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Inspect fan path and dust buildup.
  2. Check plug, adapter, and output leads for heat immediately after the failure.
  3. Repeat thermal trips from a cold start indicate escalation.
