Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify actual branch voltage and remove suspect extension-cord or adapter paths.
  2. Inspect the plug and cord for heat or damage.
  3. If dead on verified input, escalate.

2. Powers up but no welding output

  1. Prove baseline stick output with known-good dry rod and clean steel.
  2. Inspect clamp, holder, and connectors for heat or looseness.
  3. If baseline output remains unstable, escalate.

3. Feed, arc-start, or cut-start problem

  1. For stick, confirm dry rod, correct amperage, and solid work return.
  2. For TIG-capable operation, verify torch, gas, tungsten, and control setup.
  3. If stick is healthy, keep the complaint outside the core inverter.

4. Poor arc quality / unstable output

  1. Separate true instability from 120 V limitation.
  2. Inspect hot points in the input and output path under load.
  3. Escalate only after poor output is confirmed on strong power with known-good leads.

5. Gas and consumable related faults

  1. TIG-side complaints belong in the torch and gas branch first.
  2. Porosity or poor starts should not be used to condemn the power source if stick is good.
  3. If TIG alone is affected, do not broaden the diagnosis to the core inverter until the torch and gas path are proven.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Inspect airflow and dust loading.
  2. Check adapters, clamp, and holder for heat immediately after the complaint.
  3. Repeat faulting from a cold start indicates escalation.
