Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify the branch circuit and disconnect or plug path at 230 V.
  2. Inspect the input cord, switch path, and visible internal access points if service-safe.
  3. If there is still no power on verified supply, escalate.

2. Powers up but no welding output

  1. Inspect output terminals, holder lead, and clamp lead for looseness or heat damage.
  2. Confirm AC or DC selection and output range match the rod size and work thickness.
  3. If the machine has input and correct settings but still has no usable output, escalate.

3. Feed, arc-start, or cut-start problem

  1. Stick-start complaints on transformer units are usually rod condition, clamp quality, wrong range, or cable-loss problems.
  2. Confirm the selected output range matches rod size and work thickness.
  3. If starts remain poor with correct setup and cool leads, move toward internal connection or winding evaluation.

4. Poor arc quality / unstable output

  1. Inspect the work-return path first; a bad clamp on a transformer welder can mimic a failed machine.
  2. Check long-lead setups for voltage loss and connector heating.
  3. Compare AC and DC behavior. If only one side is affected, keep the diagnosis around selector, connection, or output-path issues before broader internal conclusions.
  4. Escalate if the arc remains unstable with short known-good leads and verified supply.

5. Gas, air, or consumable related faults

  1. This model is SMAW-only; most consumable complaints are electrode condition and storage issues.
  2. Wet rods, wrong rod type, or oversized rod selection should be ruled out before machine diagnosis.
  3. If the machine seems weak only on DC or only on AC with the same rod family, keep the diagnosis in the output selection branch and lead path.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Check vents and cooling path for dirt or blockage.
  2. Inspect leads, output studs, and switch areas for heat after load.
  3. If the machine overheats or trips abnormally from a cold start, escalate.
