Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify actual branch voltage and inspect adapters or plugs.
  2. Remove questionable extension cords and portable power sources.
  3. If dead on verified power, escalate.

2. Powers up but no welding output

  1. Prove baseline MMA output with known-good dry rod and short leads.
  2. Inspect work clamp, holder lead, and output connectors for heating.
  3. If baseline MMA remains abnormal, escalate.

3. Feed, arc-start, or cut-start problem

  1. For MMA, confirm rod condition, clean steel, and correct amperage.
  2. For TIG-capable use, verify torch, gas, tungsten, and setup path.
  3. If MMA is healthy, keep the complaint in the accessory branch.

4. Poor arc quality / unstable output

  1. Differentiate 120 V limitation from true instability.
  2. Inspect the full output path and input path for heat under load.
  3. Escalate only after instability is confirmed on strong power with known-good leads.

5. Gas and consumable related faults

  1. For TIG-capable operation, inspect regulator flow, hose sealing, and tungsten prep.
  2. Porosity and poor starts are accessory-side faults first.
  3. Keep MMA and TIG symptoms separated during diagnosis.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Check airflow and dust loading.
  2. Inspect plug, adapter, and output connectors for heat after the fault.
  3. Repeat faulting from a cold start indicates escalation.
