Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify installation voltage and disconnect condition.
  2. Inspect input lugs, visible external damage, and airflow path.
  3. If the unit is dead on verified installation, escalate.

2. Powers up but no welding output

  1. Prove basic MMA output first.
  2. Confirm work-return quality and electrode path.
  3. Normalize hot-start and arc-force assumptions before deeper diagnosis.
  4. If MMA is healthy but TIG support is absent, keep the diagnosis in the accessory and gas path.

3. Feed, arc-start, or cut-start problem

  1. If TIG is being attempted, verify the correct accessory and process path.
  2. Do not assume TIG failure means the base power source is dead if MMA works normally.
  3. Inspect remote assumptions, torch type, gas path, and output connections.

4. Poor arc quality / unstable output

  1. Inspect input quality and output connector heating under load.
  2. Check work-return quality and electrode-holder condition.
  3. Industrial stick-first platforms respond strongly to connector and installation issues, so keep those in the first branch.

5. Gas and consumable related faults

  1. For TIG-capable use, verify actual gas flow and torch-side hardware.
  2. Inspect tungsten, cup, collet, and torch hose condition.
  3. Keep MMA and TIG-capable accessory complaints separate.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Record whether the complaint appears only after warmup or high-duty operation.
  2. Inspect hot or loose connectors, work-return hardware, and airflow restriction.
  3. Repeated instability after installation checks should be escalated.
