Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify actual input voltage and remove questionable extension arrangements.
  2. Inspect plug, cord, switch, and visible external damage.
  3. If the unit is dead on verified input, escalate.

2. Powers up but no welding output

  1. Prove MMA output first with known-good dry electrodes and clamp.
  2. If MMA is normal, focus on the TIG torch, gas, and control path.
  3. If both TIG and MMA are abnormal, inspect input and output connections first and escalate sooner.

3. Feed, arc-start, or cut-start problem

  1. Use clean steel, fresh tungsten, and good argon flow for a simple TIG baseline.
  2. Verify whether the torch and machine are set up for valve-controlled or machine-controlled gas expectations.
  3. Keep remote and torch assumptions simple and correct before deeper diagnosis.
  4. If MMA is healthy and TIG is not, keep the diagnosis in the TIG accessory branch.

4. Poor arc quality / unstable output

  1. Inspect work-return quality, connector seating, and source stability under load.
  2. Regrind or replace tungsten and verify actual argon flow.
  3. Portable TIG and MMA systems are frequently affected by accessory mismatch rather than internal failure.
  4. If the complaint follows one field source, one extension path, or one torch package, keep the diagnosis outside the machine first.

5. Gas and consumable related faults

  1. Verify bottle contents and actual gas flow.
  2. Inspect tungsten, cup, collet, and torch-hose condition.
  3. Stick-good and TIG-bad is a very useful first split because it keeps the diagnosis in the TIG accessory chain.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Check whether the complaint appears only after warmup or sustained field use.
  2. Inspect hot connectors, clamp cable, and source-quality changes under load.
  3. Repeated instability on a known-good source should be escalated.
