Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify actual branch voltage and inspect the receptacle for heat damage or looseness.
  2. Inspect plug blades, adapters, and the input cord because budget dual-voltage machines are often misdiagnosed when the fault is in a heated adapter or weak outlet.
  3. If the unit stays dead on a known-good supply with a cool intact plug and cord, escalate.

2. Powers up but no welding output

  1. Inspect the electrode-holder lead, work lead, and front output connectors for looseness or heating.
  2. Test with a known-good dry electrode on clean steel before blaming the power source.
  3. If there is still no usable output with known-good leads, escalate inverter/output-stage diagnosis.

3. Feed, arc-start, or cut-start problem

  1. For stick complaints, treat hard start and sticking as setup issues first: wrong rod type, low amperage, painted/rusty work, or a weak clamp point.
  2. For lift-TIG complaints, confirm the optional torch setup, gas flow, tungsten prep, and output-polarity path before treating it as a machine fault.
  3. If SMAW is normal and lift-TIG is poor, stay in the accessory/gas branch until proven otherwise.

4. Poor arc quality / unstable output

  1. Separate real machine instability from normal 120 V performance limits. If the machine is on 120 V, heavy electrodes and long duty runs will feel weak compared with 240 V operation.
  2. Inspect output connectors and lead ends for heating, looseness, or broken strands.
  3. If output remains erratic on 240 V with short heavy leads and dry electrodes, escalate.

5. Gas and consumable related faults

  1. For lift-TIG use, verify bottle pressure, regulator flow, torch valve operation, tungsten condition, and gas hose sealing.
  2. Poor starts, porosity, or tungsten contamination are far more likely to be accessory-side faults than an internal machine fault on this platform.
  3. Regrind tungsten and retest after proving the gas path.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Check fan openings for dust blockage and confirm the fan path is unobstructed.
  2. Inspect the plug, adapters, and receptacle for heating after a short heavy-load run.
  3. If the machine faults or derates abnormally from a cold start with clean airflow and good power, escalate.
