Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify actual input voltage and eliminate weak extension cords.
  2. Inspect cord, plug, switch, and visible external damage.
  3. If the unit is dead on known-good power, escalate internal supply diagnosis.

2. Powers up but no welding output

  1. Start with stick welding using dry electrodes and known-good leads.
  2. Inspect the work clamp and holder for broken strands or heat damage.
  3. If stick output is abnormal with good leads, escalate core inverter diagnosis.

3. Arc-start problem

  1. For TIG complaints, confirm the machine is set up for lift-TIG and the torch/gas package is correct.
  2. Verify gas flow, torch valve position, tungsten prep, and clamp contact.
  3. If stick works and TIG does not, stay in the accessory path.
  4. If the symptom changes with one set of leads or one torch, keep the diagnosis in that branch first.

4. Poor arc quality / unstable output

  1. Check input quality, clamp bite, and lead heating.
  2. Use dry rods and clean work surfaces.
  3. Mobile inverters are often unstable because of the installation, not the inverter.
  4. Keep generator-compatibility complaints separate from true machine faults.

5. Gas and consumable related faults

  1. For TIG use, verify bottle pressure, regulator flow, hose integrity, and tungsten condition.
  2. Inspect cup, collet, and torch fittings.
  3. Porosity or erratic starts usually belong to the accessory path first.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Check fan operation and ventilation.
  2. Inspect leads, clamp, and holder after load for heating.
  3. Persistent early thermal behavior with clear airflow should be escalated.
