Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify actual branch voltage and inspect adapters, plug blades, and receptacle condition.
  2. Remove suspect extension cords from the test path.
  3. If dead on verified power, escalate.

2. Powers up but no welding output

  1. Prove baseline stick output with known-good dry rod and simple settings.
  2. Inspect holder lead, work lead, and output connectors for heating or looseness.
  3. Confirm the complaint is not tied to one adapter, one receptacle, or one voltage class.
  4. If baseline output remains unstable, escalate.

3. Feed, arc-start, or cut-start problem

  1. For stick, confirm rod condition, amperage, and work-return quality.
  2. For DC TIG, verify torch adapter, gas flow, tungsten, and torch-side setup.
  3. Confirm local or panel-baseline behavior before treating any accessory-side complaint as internal.
  4. If stick is healthy, keep the complaint out of the core power section.

4. Poor arc quality / unstable output

  1. Separate 120 V performance limits from true faults.
  2. Inspect hot points in the plug or adapter path, clamp path, and output connectors.
  3. If the complaint is materially better on 230 V, treat supply envelope and setup expectations before machine failure.
  4. Escalate only after poor output is confirmed on strong power with known-good leads.

5. Gas and consumable related faults

  1. DC TIG complaints require gas-path, torch, tungsten, and sealing checks first.
  2. Porosity or poor starts should not be used to condemn the machine if stick is healthy.
  3. If TIG alone is affected, keep the diagnosis in the accessory branch until proven otherwise.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Inspect airflow and dust loading.
  2. Check plug, adapter, clamp, and holder temperatures after the complaint.
  3. Early thermal complaints on moderate work usually point to the power path or current path before the inverter.
  4. Repeat faulting from a cold start indicates escalation.
