Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify actual installation voltage and confirm the machine is configured for the available supply.
  2. Inspect plug, disconnect, input cable, and visible external damage.
  3. If the unit is dead on verified input, escalate.

2. Powers up but no welding output

  1. Prove stick output first with known-good leads and clamp.
  2. If stick is healthy, keep the diagnosis in the TIG accessory path and control mode.
  3. If both stick and TIG fail, escalate core inverter diagnosis sooner.

3. Feed, arc-start, or cut-start problem

  1. Confirm the machine expects the connected remote method.
  2. Check torch switch versus pedal mode and cooler or torch integration if water-cooled.
  3. Inspect the work clamp and tungsten before suspecting HF or start circuitry.
  4. If starts are erratic only on AC, reset AC balance, frequency, and pulse to a conservative baseline before deeper teardown.

4. Poor arc quality / unstable output

  1. Reset balance, frequency, and pulse to sane baseline values.
  2. Confirm pure argon flow and clean joint prep.
  3. Separate operator parameter drift from machine fault by testing on clean coupon material.
  4. A large percentage of machine problems on advanced AC TIG platforms are parameter-stack issues after switching materials or operators.

5. Gas and consumable related faults

  1. Verify actual gas flow and inspect torch hose, cup, collet, and back-cap condition.
  2. Regrind or replace contaminated tungsten.
  3. Keep cooler, torch, and gas-side faults separate from core power-source assumptions.
  4. If the complaint appears only with one torch package, remote, or cooler arrangement, isolate that package before treating the machine as failed.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Verify actual installation voltage and cooling path cleanliness.
  2. Inspect airflow, cooler operation if fitted, and duty-cycle use.
  3. If faults persist from a cold restart with normalized setup, escalate.
