Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify the actual installation voltage and phase condition.
  2. Inspect disconnect, cord or lug path, and visible case damage.
  3. If dead on verified power, escalate.

2. Powers up but no welding output

  1. Remove remotes and TIG accessories and prove a plain local stick baseline.
  2. Inspect output connectors and the full current path for looseness or heat damage.
  3. If no stable output remains in baseline form, escalate.

3. Feed, arc-start, or cut-start problem

  1. For stick complaints, confirm the issue with known-good dry electrodes and clean steel.
  2. For TIG complaints, verify gas path, torch condition, and Lift-Arc expectations.
  3. If stick is good and TIG is not, stay in the accessory branch.

4. Poor arc quality / unstable output

  1. High-output stick platforms expose weak connector paths quickly, so inspect the full current path for heating.
  2. Confirm the complaint is not caused by poor field power or a weak work-return point.
  3. Re-test with local control and a short known-good lead set before broadening the diagnosis.
  4. Escalate only after the machine remains unstable in a simplified local setup.

5. Gas, air, or consumable related faults

  1. For DC TIG, verify torch, gas, tungsten, and hose sealing.
  2. Porosity and poor starts usually indicate torch or gas issues rather than a failed power section.
  3. Keep TIG-specific faults separate from base stick performance.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Inspect fan path and dust contamination.
  2. Check connectors, studs, and lead ends for heat immediately after high-load work.
  3. Repeated faulting from a cold start indicates escalation.
