Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify actual branch voltage and confirm the correct primary cord is fitted for the receptacle in use.
  2. Remove suspect extension cords and inspect the plug or cable path for heat or looseness.
  3. If the machine is dead on verified power with the correct cord set, escalate.

2. Powers up but no welding output

  1. Prove baseline stick output with known-good dry rod on clean steel.
  2. Inspect holder lead, work lead, and output connectors for looseness or heat discoloration.
  3. Confirm the machine is not being judged through a weak 120 V branch, especially if the complaint appeared after moving off 240 V service.
  4. If there is still no stable output, escalate.

3. Feed, arc-start, or cut-start problem

  1. Most complaints on this machine are still rod-condition, amperage, or work-return problems first.
  2. Confirm the user is not expecting 240 V behavior while on a weak 120 V branch.
  3. Inspect the electrode-holder jaw pressure and cable-end heating because this class is often used with older field leads.
  4. If starts remain poor on strong power with good leads and dry rod, escalate.

4. Poor arc quality / unstable output

  1. Separate true instability from 120 V operating limits.
  2. Inspect the complete current path for hot points: receptacle, primary cord, holder, clamp, and cable ends.
  3. If the complaint follows generator use, return to a known-good utility source before blaming the inverter.
  4. Escalate only after poor output is confirmed on strong power with known-good leads.

5. Gas and consumable related faults

  1. This model is stick-only; consumable-side complaints are primarily electrode type, storage, and condition.
  2. Rule out wet or oversized electrodes before machine diagnosis.
  3. If one rod family behaves worse than another, keep the diagnosis in the consumable path first.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Inspect intake and exhaust airflow plus dust buildup.
  2. Check input and output connectors for heat immediately after the complaint.
  3. Early hot behavior on light-duty work usually means supply-path or connector loss rather than a true thermal limit.
  4. Repeat faulting from a cold start indicates escalation.
