Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify input voltage and branch quality, especially when the machine is being used from temporary field power.
  2. Inspect the power cord and output connectors for heating or looseness.
  3. If the display is dead on verified power, escalate.

2. Powers up but no welding output

  1. Prove stick welding first with known-good dry electrodes and a clean work return.
  2. If stick is healthy, narrow the remaining fault tree to TIG torch, gas, remote, and start method.
  3. If neither process is healthy, treat the complaint as supply-path or core-machine related sooner.

3. Feed, arc-start, or cut-start problem

  1. Normalize to a simple DC TIG steel setup.
  2. Verify whether the setup uses valve-torch gas control or machine gas control, then confirm gas flow, tungsten prep, and work return.
  3. Avoid diagnosing pulse or advanced behavior until the base TIG setup is proven.

4. Poor arc quality / unstable output

  1. Remove extension cords and confirm the machine is not being fed from unstable temporary power.
  2. Disconnect optional remotes or switches and test with the simplest supported start arrangement.
  3. If stick welding remains stable while TIG is inconsistent, keep the diagnosis on torch, remote, or gas arrangement rather than the main power section.

5. Gas and consumable related faults

  1. Verify argon flow, torch front-end sealing, and tungsten condition.
  2. Distinguish tungsten contamination from true start failure by regrinding tungsten and simplifying the torch setup.
  3. If the complaint follows a torch change or remote change, keep the diagnosis outside the power section until that branch is proven.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Record whether the complaint appears only after a period of field use or warm-up.
  2. Inspect the input path, output connectors, and remote connection for intermittent heat-related behavior.
  3. Repeated internal fault behavior from a cold start should be escalated.
