Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify actual input voltage and phase arrangement and eliminate suspect generator or distribution issues.
  2. Inspect the primary cord, disconnect, and visible case damage.
  3. If the machine is dead on verified power, escalate.

2. Powers up but no welding output

  1. Remove remotes and optional TIG hardware and prove a plain local stick setup first.
  2. Inspect output connectors, holder lead, and work lead for heating or looseness.
  3. If there is still no stable output in a stripped baseline setup, escalate.

3. Feed, arc-start, or cut-start problem

  1. For stick complaints, confirm dry rods, clean steel, correct amperage, and DIG or Hot Start assumptions.
  2. For TIG complaints, verify torch adapter, gas flow, tungsten, and remote or control selection.
  3. If stick is healthy, the core power section is usually not the cause of TIG-only complaints.

4. Poor arc quality / unstable output

  1. Inspect installation quality and output-connector heating under load.
  2. Confirm the complaint survives a simplified local setup with short known-good leads.
  3. Reintroduce DIG or advanced behavior only after base performance is healthy.
  4. Escalate only after setup-state, accessory-state, and supply-state faults are ruled out.

5. Gas, air, or consumable related faults

  1. TIG operation depends on the external torch adapter, gas path, and torch-side hardware being correct.
  2. Porosity, bad starts, and tungsten contamination belong to the accessory branch first.
  3. Regrind tungsten and prove gas flow before escalating.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Record whether the complaint appears only after higher-amperage work.
  2. Inspect output studs, Dinse connections, and remotes for heat or intermittent contact.
  3. Repeat faulting from a cold start indicates escalation.
