Failure patterns and repair logic

1. Normalize the setup first

  1. Disable pulse and advanced features.
  2. Test simple local DC TIG on clean steel or stainless.
  3. Confirm gas flow, tungsten prep, work return, and local-versus-remote state before deeper diagnosis.

2. Input and output complaints

  1. Verify actual input voltage and phase before condemning the machine.
  2. Inspect output leads and connectors for heat damage or looseness.
  3. If behavior changes with supply configuration, keep the diagnosis in the installation branch before condemning the inverter.
  4. Prove simple stick output if TIG diagnosis remains ambiguous.

3. No start or unstable TIG initiation

  1. Separate local control from remote-controlled behavior.
  2. If the complaint disappears with the remote removed, stay in the remote or connector branch.
  3. Verify torch front-end sealing, tungsten prep, gas flow, and clamp contact before broadening to internal failure.

4. Interface or fault behavior

  1. Record the exact display behavior or code.
  2. If the interface is unstable, do not guess at field repair beyond basic power and connector checks.
  3. Escalate repeated internal faults or erratic control behavior that survive a stripped-baseline retest.

5. Gas and consumable related faults

  1. Verify argon flow and inspect the torch hose, cup, collet, and back-cap seal.
  2. Regrind or replace contaminated tungsten.
  3. Keep water-cooler and torch-package assumptions out of the diagnosis until a simple local baseline is proven.

6. Heat, remote, and accessory interaction complaints

  1. Disconnect optional remote or accessory devices and retest with a basic torch-and-work-lead setup.
  2. If the complaint appears only after warmup, compare fan operation and airflow against the duty cycle before assuming inverter failure.
  3. Document any behavior that changes when the remote is unplugged because that sharply narrows the fault tree.
