Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify the selected input source and inspect any adapter used for the connection.
  2. Check for plug or receptacle heating because these machines commonly expose weak utility hardware under load.
  3. If the machine is dead on a known-good supply with a cool intact power path, escalate.

2. Powers up but no welding output

  1. Inspect output connectors, holder lead, and clamp lead for looseness or heat discoloration.
  2. Retest with dry electrodes on clean steel and a short lead arrangement.
  3. If there is still no reliable output, escalate core inverter diagnosis.

3. Feed, arc-start, or cut-start problem

  1. For stick operation, hard-start complaints usually come from work-return quality, amperage setting, or rod condition rather than a failed power board.
  2. For lift-TIG, verify gas flow, tungsten, torch valve action, and correct connection path.
  3. If SMAW is stable and TIG is not, stay in the torch, gas, or accessory branch.

4. Poor arc quality / unstable output

  1. Separate low-voltage limitation from failure. Heavy electrodes and long welds may be acceptable on 230 V and unsatisfactory on low-voltage input without indicating a defect.
  2. Inspect for hot connectors, hot clamp jaws, and broken strands at cable ends.
  3. Escalate only after the machine shows instability on verified high-voltage input with known-good leads and consumables.

5. Gas and consumable related faults

  1. Lift-TIG complaints require gas verification, tungsten prep, cup and collet condition, and torch sealing checks.
  2. Poor starts or contamination should be treated as accessory-side until proven otherwise.
  3. Regrind tungsten and reduce variables before escalating.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Inspect intake and exhaust airflow, dust buildup, and fan behavior.
  2. After the complaint occurs, inspect the plug, adapter, receptacle, and output connectors for abnormal heating.
  3. Repeated hot behavior with clean airflow and solid supply indicates escalation.
