Engine-Driven Subsystem Split Matrix

This annex is for separating engine-driven complaints into the correct subsystem before the technician wastes time in the wrong branch.

Core split

Every engine-driven complaint belongs first to one of these branches:

Observed symptom	First subsystem to isolate	High-value first test	Common false diagnosis
Engine runs well, no weld output	weld output path	test directly at output studs with simple lead set	blaming engine package for a lead or feeder problem
Weld weak and auxiliary power also weak	engine speed or regulation	remove auxiliary load and watch RPM under weld load	blaming weld section when governor or load management is the problem
Auxiliary power normal, weld abnormal	weld controls or output-current path	inspect studs, lugs, range selection, and direct-output baseline	broad "generator bad" diagnosis

Best split: engine speed, weld output, auxiliary interaction, feeder branch.
Idle-to-run behavior matters because hesitation there can look like weak weld output.
If direct stick output is stable, stop broadening the diagnosis through a feeder.

Best split: engine/governor, weld output, auxiliary, and air subsystem on Air models.
Ranger Air variants require a separate air-load branch before interpreting weak weld complaints.
If auxiliary power is healthy while weld output is poor, stay in output studs, control setup, and feeder compatibility first.

Best split: engine service state, base weld output, accessory-fed processes.
Pull-start/electric-start hardware and basic maintenance state create more complaints than deep internal faults on light utility platforms.

Best split: engine start and maintenance, direct weld output, accessory-fed wire branch, auxiliary load.
Keep low-cost accessory mismatch separate from the base machine.

Prove engine stability without load.
Prove direct weld output with the simplest leads possible.
Prove auxiliary output separately.
Reintroduce feeder, remote, or TIG accessory complexity only after the direct baseline is healthy.
On air-equipped machines, isolate compressor demand from weld demand.
