Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify correct input voltage and inspect plug, cord, and disconnect.
  2. Check the power switch and any visible external protection points.
  3. If the unit is dead on verified power, escalate.

2. Powers up but no welding output

  1. Prove stick output first. If stick is normal, stay in the TIG accessory path.
  2. Inspect pedal or remote connection, torch switch, and work clamp.
  3. If both stick and TIG are absent, escalate core output diagnosis.

3. Arc-start complaint

  1. TIG start complaints are usually front-end, pedal, or gas issues on this class of machine.
  2. Inspect tungsten preparation, collet grip, cup fit, and torch gas flow.
  3. Verify remote mode and pedal travel response.

4. Poor arc quality or unstable output

  1. Reset to a conservative baseline and use fresh tungsten.
  2. Inspect gas flow, clamp quality, and torch-body tightness.
  3. On older light TIG units, unstable arc is commonly setup- or consumable-related before it is electronic.

5. Gas and consumable related faults

  1. Verify cylinder pressure and actual flow at the torch.
  2. Inspect hoses, torch head, back cap, and cup.
  3. Replace contaminated tungsten, collets, and cracked cups before assuming a machine fault.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Check cooling airflow and duty-cycle use.
  2. Inspect torch overheating, loose work clamps, and hot connections.
  3. Escalate if output drops from a cold start or across both stick and TIG.
