Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify actual input voltage and receptacle quality.
  2. Inspect the plug, cord, and power switch for heat or looseness.
  3. If the display is dead on known-good power, escalate rather than guessing at inverter-board failure.

2. Powers up but no welding output

  1. Confirm process selection and output lead placement.
  2. Check work-return quality on clean metal.
  3. If stick works but TIG does not, keep the fault tree in torch, gas, and remote setup first.

3. Arc-start problem

  1. Verify whether the torch is valve-type or expects machine gas control.
  2. Confirm gas flow and tungsten condition.
  3. Check remote selection and trigger or pedal assumptions.
  4. If the complaint exists only in pulse mode, remove pulse and prove the base DC TIG path first.

4. Poor arc quality / unstable output

  1. Normalize to simple DC TIG on clean steel or stainless.
  2. Disable advanced pulse assumptions if they complicate the diagnosis.
  3. Keep clamp and gas quality in the first branch.
  4. If stick is healthy but TIG is unstable, stay in torch, gas, or remote branches before broadening to the power source.

5. Gas and consumable related faults

  1. Verify cylinder pressure, regulator flow, and hose integrity.
  2. Inspect tungsten condition and torch consumables.
  3. Stick-good/TIG-bad is a very useful first split because it keeps the diagnosis in the TIG accessory chain.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Determine whether the problem appears only after warm-up.
  2. Inspect hot output connectors and note any control instability.
  3. Repeated faults from a cold start should be escalated.
