Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify actual installation voltage and disconnect condition.
  2. Inspect input terminations and cooling path.
  3. If dead on verified power, escalate rather than assuming a simple accessory fault.

2. Powers up but no welding output

  1. Prove stick output first if possible.
  2. Clamp to clean parent metal and verify output connections.
  3. If stick works but TIG does not, keep the fault tree in torch, gas, pedal, and start logic first.

3. Arc-start problem

  1. Confirm foot-pedal or torch-switch mode.
  2. Verify gas flow, tungsten prep, and work-return quality.
  3. Confirm that conservative settings are loaded before deeper assumptions are made.
  4. If still no TIG start after those checks, escalate.

4. Poor arc quality / unstable output

  1. Normalize to simple DC TIG on clean steel or stainless.
  2. For aluminum, reset AC balance and frequency assumptions and confirm clean oxide-free material.
  3. Keep gas coverage and grounding in the first branch.
  4. If DC TIG is healthy and AC TIG is not, stay in the AC-parameter and accessory branch before broadening to the machine.

5. Gas and consumable related faults

  1. Verify cylinder pressure, regulator flow, and hose integrity.
  2. Inspect torch consumables and tungsten condition.
  3. Stick-good/TIG-bad is a very useful first split because it keeps the diagnosis in the TIG accessory chain.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Record whether the problem appears only after sustained welding.
  2. Inspect airflow blockage and hot connectors.
  3. Repeated faults from a cold start should be escalated.
