Symptom Most likely causes First checks
No stick output Loose leads, bad clamp, weak branch circuit Check output connectors and dedicated supply
Stick works but TIG-capable setup does not Torch, gas, or clamp issue Verify TIG torch, gas path, and clamp
Weak arc Low branch voltage or hot output connectors Test on dedicated branch and inspect leads
Intermittent behavior Hot connector or control issue Check warm-up pattern and output-lug heat

Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify actual receptacle voltage.
  2. Inspect plug, cord, and power switch condition.
  3. If dead on verified power, escalate rather than assuming a simple lead issue.

2. Powers up but no welding output

  1. Confirm process mode and output lead seating.
  2. Clamp to clean parent metal.
  3. Prove basic stick output before diagnosing TIG-capable setup.

3. Arc-start problem

  1. If TIG is being attempted, verify torch type, gas flow, and clamp path.
  2. Keep TIG-capable setup complaints separate from base stick output.
  3. If basic stick is weak on good power, stay in the power and current-path branch first.

4. Poor arc quality / unstable output

  1. Normalize to basic stick welding with appropriate rod.
  2. Check branch power and hot output connectors.
  3. If the complaint only appears on a long extension cord, keep the diagnosis in the utility path first.

5. Gas and consumable related faults

  1. Only apply this branch if TIG-capable mode is being used.
  2. Verify gas pressure, hose integrity, and torch consumables.
  3. Compare TIG-capable complaints against the simple stick baseline before broadening to the machine.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Note whether the issue appears only after several minutes of use.
  2. Inspect hot DINSE or output connections and plug condition.
  3. If output fades only after connector heating, keep the diagnosis in the connection path first.
