Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / no cut start

  1. Verify line power and machine ready state.
  2. Confirm clean dry air at the correct pressure under flow, not just static pressure.
  3. Inspect the consumable stack and torch service parts.
  4. Check work clamp placement on clean parent metal.

2. Powers up but no plasma output

  1. Reseat consumables and torch parts according to the legacy torch-service documentation.
  2. Inspect torch lead connection and clamp path.
  3. Remove mechanized or CNC interface wiring and prove manual baseline first.
  4. If still no start with known-good air and consumables, escalate.

3. Cut-start or torch problem

  1. Separate consumable-stack faults from air-supply faults.
  2. Confirm that retaining parts and torch service parts are assembled correctly and fully seated.
  3. If manual cutting is normal but mechanized is not, keep the fault tree in the interface branch.

4. Poor cut quality / unstable output

  1. Replace worn nozzle and electrode.
  2. Verify dry clean air and proper standoff and travel speed.
  3. Retest on clean mild steel before deeper diagnosis.
  4. If cut quality recovers immediately with fresh torch service parts, do not broaden into a power-source failure tree.

5. Gas, air, and consumable related faults

  1. Inspect filters, dryers, and water traps.
  2. Confirm the correct consumables and torch-service parts are installed.
  3. Air-quality complaints that affect other air tools or appear after compressor drain neglect belong in the utility branch first.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Record exact fault code or symptom pattern.
  2. Note whether the problem appears only at higher duty cycle.
  3. Repeated faults from a cold setup with known-good air should be escalated.
