Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify supply voltage and plug condition.
  2. Inspect cord, switch, and breaker or fuse path if present.
  3. If dead on verified power, escalate rather than assuming a simple gun or trigger fault.

2. Powers up but no welding output

  1. Tighten polarity and output connections.
  2. Clamp to clean metal.
  3. Replace the tip before deeper diagnosis if wire feeds but the arc is weak or absent.
  4. If the complaint disappears on one clamp point only, keep the diagnosis in the return path first.

3. Feed problem

  1. Reduce drive tension.
  2. Compare feed with and without the tip installed.
  3. Inspect spool drag and liner contamination.
  4. If feed becomes healthy with the tip removed, stay in the gun path instead of broadening to feeder motor or board faults.

4. Poor arc quality / unstable output

  1. Reset to steel MIG with known gas and wire.
  2. Confirm base-metal cleanliness and clamp pressure.
  3. Keep gas and consumables in the first branch before deeper electrical diagnosis.

5. Gas and consumable related faults

  1. Verify flowmeter output and hose sealing.
  2. Replace nozzle and tip if contaminated or overheated.
  3. Gas complaints that disappear with one cylinder or regulator belong in the utility branch first.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Watch whether the issue appears only during longer welds.
  2. Inspect heated gun neck, tip, and cable lugs.
  3. Repeated cold-start loss of output should be escalated.
