Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify actual 230 V supply.
  2. Inspect plug, cord, and switch for looseness or heat.
  3. If dead on verified supply, escalate rather than assuming a simple gun or trigger problem.

2. Powers up but no welding output

  1. Clamp to clean parent metal.
  2. Confirm output and polarity lugs are tight.
  3. Replace the contact tip if wire feeds but the arc does not.
  4. If the complaint disappears on one clamp point only, keep the diagnosis in the return path first.

3. Feed problem

  1. Reset drive-roll pressure to a minimal effective setting.
  2. Compare feed with the tip removed.
  3. Inspect liner cleanliness and spool drag.
  4. If feed becomes healthy with the tip removed, stay in the gun path instead of broadening to feeder motor or board faults.

4. Poor arc quality / unstable output

  1. Normalize to basic steel MIG with known gas.
  2. Check work-return quality and material cleanliness.
  3. Keep polarity, gas, and consumables in the first branch before deeper electrical diagnosis.

5. Gas and consumable related faults

  1. Verify gas flow and hose sealing.
  2. Replace nozzle and tip if contaminated or overheated.
  3. Gas complaints that disappear with one cylinder or regulator belong in the utility branch first.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Record whether the issue appears only after longer output.
  2. Inspect gun neck and cable-lug heating.
  3. Repeated cold-start loss of output should be escalated.
