Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify actual receptacle voltage and plug condition.
  2. Inspect switch and cord for heat or looseness.
  3. If dead on verified power, escalate rather than assuming a simple gun or trigger fault.

2. Powers up but no welding output

  1. Clamp to clean metal.
  2. Confirm polarity and tight output connections.
  3. Replace the contact tip before deeper diagnosis if wire feed is present.
  4. If the complaint disappears on one clamp point only, keep the diagnosis in the return path first.

3. Feed problem

  1. Reset roll pressure to the minimum needed.
  2. Remove the tip and compare feed quality.
  3. Inspect liner cleanliness and spool drag.
  4. If feed becomes healthy with the tip removed, stay in the gun path instead of broadening to feeder motor or board faults.

4. Poor arc quality / unstable output

  1. Normalize to a basic steel MIG setup.
  2. Check material cleanliness and clamp quality.
  3. Keep branch-power quality, polarity, and consumables in the first branch before deeper electrical diagnosis.

5. Gas and consumable related faults

  1. Verify actual gas flow if running solid wire.
  2. Inspect nozzle and tip for heat damage.
  3. Gas-conversion complaints should be separated from bare flux-cored baseline performance before the machine is blamed.

6. Intermittent behavior

  1. Watch whether the issue appears only after longer work.
  2. Inspect hot tip, gun neck, and lugs.
  3. If plug or outlet heating appears first, keep the diagnosis in the utility path before assuming a machine failure.
