Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify actual supply voltage under load if possible.
  2. Inspect plug, cord, and switch condition.
  3. If the display stays dead on verified power, escalate rather than guessing at inverter-board failure.

2. Powers up but no welding output

  1. Clamp to clean bright metal.
  2. Confirm polarity path and tight output connections.
  3. Replace the tip if feed exists but no stable arc forms.
  4. If the complaint disappears on one clamp point only, keep the diagnosis in the return path first.

3. Feed problem

  1. Reduce drive-roll pressure.
  2. Compare feed with the tip removed.
  3. Inspect liner cleanliness and spool drag.
  4. If feed becomes healthy with the tip removed, stay in the gun path instead of broadening to feeder motor or board faults.

4. Poor arc quality / unstable output

  1. Normalize to a simple steel MIG baseline with known gas.
  2. Eliminate poor branch power and long extension cords before deeper diagnosis.
  3. Keep polarity and consumables in the first branch because compact inverter MIG units are sensitive to both.

5. Gas and consumable related faults

  1. Verify actual gas flow and hose integrity.
  2. Replace nozzle and tip if contaminated or heat-damaged.
  3. Gas-conversion complaints should be separated from bare flux-cored baseline performance before the machine is blamed.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Note whether the problem appears only after the unit warms up.
  2. Inspect hot tip, gun neck, and plug condition.
  3. If display or control behavior changes with temperature, escalate.
