Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify the 230 V branch and plug condition.
  2. Inspect cord, switch, and visible connections for heat damage.
  3. If dead on verified supply, escalate rather than assuming a simple gun or trigger problem.

2. Powers up but no welding output

  1. Tighten polarity and output lugs.
  2. Clamp to bright metal.
  3. Replace the contact tip if wire feeds but the arc is poor or absent.
  4. If the complaint disappears on one clamp point only, keep the diagnosis in the return path first.

3. Feed problem

  1. Reset drive pressure.
  2. Inspect spool drag and liner contamination.
  3. Compare feed with the tip removed.
  4. If feed becomes healthy with the tip removed, stay in the gun path instead of broadening to feeder motor or board faults.

4. Poor arc quality / unstable output

  1. Return to a basic steel MIG baseline.
  2. Confirm work-return quality and material cleanliness.
  3. Keep gas, polarity, and consumables in the first branch before deeper electrical diagnosis.

5. Gas and consumable related faults

  1. Verify gas bottle pressure and actual flow.
  2. Replace nozzle and tip if heat-damaged.
  3. Gas complaints that disappear with one cylinder or regulator belong in the utility branch first.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Document whether the issue appears only after longer welds.
  2. Inspect gun neck, tip, and cable-lug heating.
  3. If the complaint appears only after connection heating, keep the diagnosis in the current path first.
