Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify the 230 V source.
  2. Inspect plug, cord, and switch for looseness or heat.
  3. If dead on verified supply, escalate rather than assuming a simple gun or trigger problem.

2. Powers up but no welding output

  1. Tighten output and polarity lugs.
  2. Clamp to clean metal.
  3. Replace the contact tip if wire feed is present but arc response is poor.
  4. If the complaint disappears on one clamp point only, keep the diagnosis in the return path first.

3. Feed problem

  1. Reset drive pressure.
  2. Compare feed with the tip removed.
  3. Inspect liner contamination and spool drag.
  4. If feed becomes healthy with the tip removed, stay in the gun path instead of broadening to feeder motor or board faults.

4. Poor arc quality / unstable output

  1. Return to a basic steel MIG baseline with known gas.
  2. Check work-return quality and base-metal cleanliness.
  3. Keep gas, polarity, and consumables in the first branch before deeper electrical diagnosis.

5. Gas and consumable related faults

  1. Verify regulator flow and hose sealing.
  2. Replace nozzle and tip if contaminated.
  3. Gas complaints that disappear with one cylinder or regulator belong in the utility branch first.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Watch for problems appearing only after sustained output.
  2. Inspect hot gun neck and cable lugs.
  3. If the complaint appears only after connection heating, keep the diagnosis in the current path first.
