Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify input voltage, phase or link setup, and disconnect condition.
  2. Inspect input terminals and cooling path.
  3. If the unit is dead on verified installation, escalate.

2. Powers up but no welding output

  1. Test with the simplest process and the shortest lead set.
  2. Remove feeder and remote accessories to verify core output.
  3. If output is still absent, escalate core power-source diagnosis.

3. Feeder, remote, or arc-start complaint

  1. On wire-process complaints, prove feeder, control cable, and gun separately.
  2. On TIG complaints, prove remote or pedal and torch path separately.
  3. Keep subsystem boundaries clear during diagnosis.

4. Poor arc quality or unstable output

  1. Inspect work return and all high-current connections.
  2. Check long-lead voltage drop and supply quality.
  3. If all processes are unstable on a simplified test setup, escalate.

5. Gas and consumable related faults

  1. Gas and front-end issues belong to the connected torch or gun subsystem.
  2. Verify gas flow, tip or tungsten condition, and feeder or gun wear.
  3. Do not assign porosity or burnback to the XMT until accessories are proven.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Inspect airflow, fan action, and dust buildup.
  2. Look for hot output connectors and hot work returns after load.
  3. Persistent hot-run faults with peripherals removed require escalation.
