Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify actual outlet voltage and remove questionable extension-cord arrangements.
  2. Inspect plug, cord, switch, and visible external damage.
  3. If the machine is dead on verified input, escalate.

2. Powers up but no welding output

  1. Clamp to bright metal and inspect clamp cable and jaws.
  2. Replace the contact tip and inspect front-end current-transfer parts.
  3. If wire feeds but arc is absent, keep the first branch in clamp and current path rather than the feeder motor.

3. Feed problem

  1. Because this is a 120 V compact machine, inspect the small-wire path carefully for tip and liner drag.
  2. Set roll tension only high enough to prevent slippage.
  3. Replace worn consumables before deeper diagnosis.

4. Poor arc quality / unstable output

  1. Remove extension cords and test on a known-good branch.
  2. Compare the complaint to the machine's thickness and output expectations.
  3. Reset to the recommended baseline settings and confirm wire/gas pairing and polarity.

5. Gas and consumable related faults

  1. Verify actual gas flow if running solid wire.
  2. Confirm polarity after wire-type changes; compact MIGs are commonly mis-set after switching between gas and flux-core work.
  3. Check work clamp and metal cleanliness before assuming electronics.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Check fan operation and blocked airflow.
  2. Inspect hot plug blades, clamp jaws, and front-end components after load.
  3. Repeated nuisance trips on a dedicated branch should be escalated.
