Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify 240 V input at the receptacle and inspect plug and cord.
  2. Check the switch and any visible external protection points.
  3. If the unit is dead on verified power, escalate.

2. Powers up but no welding output

  1. Confirm clamp integrity and front-panel torch connection.
  2. Replace the contact tip and inspect diffuser and nozzle condition.
  3. If feed is normal but current is absent, separate current-path faults from feed-path faults.
  4. If the complaint changes when the Euro connector is reseated, keep diagnosis in the torch branch first.

3. Feed problem

  1. Remove the tip and test bare-wire feed.
  2. Match drive-roll groove and tension to wire type.
  3. Inspect liner cleanliness, spool drag, and any spool-gun-specific path issues.
  4. If feed normalizes with the tip removed, keep the diagnosis in the torch path before blaming the machine.

4. Poor arc quality / unstable output

  1. Return to a known mild-steel baseline.
  2. Verify gas flow, polarity, and work-return quality.
  3. If instability changes with connector movement, suspect the torch or front connector first.
  4. If the complaint disappears on flux-cored baseline, keep the gas branch ahead of machine suspicion.

5. Gas and consumable related faults

  1. Verify cylinder contents and actual gas flow.
  2. Replace worn tips, diffusers, and nozzles.
  3. Inspect hose routing and front-end leaks.
  4. Porosity that follows one bottle or regulator is not a power-source fault.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Check fan operation and cooling airflow.
  2. Inspect hot clamp hardware and heated front-panel connectors.
  3. Escalate repeated fault behavior that remains after setup and airflow correction.
