Symptom Most likely causes First checks
Rough arc only when settings are off chart setup drift, wrong tap, or wrong wire-speed baseline return to the WeldKing chart and prove one plain-steel short weld
No gas on trigger gas-valve or control branch listen for gas command and verify the solenoid branch before deeper repair
Base gun healthy but spool gun not spool-gun or drive-roll branch keep the diagnosis in the external gun and drive-roll path
Ripple-heavy buzz or unstable output capacitor aging or shared power path prove chart-correct base-gun MIG before blaming the machine

Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify input power, idle state, and process-selection state before condemning the shared power source.

2. Powers up but no welding output

  1. If the machine powers up but there is no welding output, prove chart-correct base-gun MIG before chasing the spool-gun or internal branch.

3. Feed, arc-start, or cut-start problem

  1. Feed, start, or no-output complaints should be split by process. Do not diagnose a MIG-only complaint like a whole-machine failure.
  2. If there is no gas on trigger, keep the diagnosis in the gas-solenoid or control branch before blaming the output section.
  3. If the base gun is healthy and only the spool gun fails, keep the diagnosis in the external spool-gun and drive-roll path.

4. Poor arc quality / unstable output

  1. Poor arc quality often comes from wrong process-change state, wrong polarity, or accessory-path faults before it comes from the shared power source.
  2. If weld output carries excessive AC component or unstable ripple on a chart-correct base-gun setup, the shared MAG notes point to capacitor condition first.

5. Gas, air, or consumable related faults

  1. Gas, consumable, and accessory complaints should be isolated to the active process before escalation.
  2. Treat gun consumables, Bernard front-end parts, gas flow, and spool-gun compatibility as first-line service items on MAG211.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. If the complaint appears after warm-up or after a process change, inspect utility quality, current-path heating, and control-state drift before internal repair.
