Fast triage

Symptom Most likely causes First checks
Readouts freeze or look wrong at startup source-side control or power PCB branch watch the power-source display and gas state before touching the feeder
Gas is stuck open at idle source-side solenoid-control branch confirm startup gas state before trigger or feeder tests
Feeder misbehaves but source controls also look wrong power source, not feeder hardware first prove source baseline before changing feeder parts
Only spool gun acts wrong spool-gun connection or drive-roll branch prove base MIG first and isolate the spool-gun package

Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify input power, idle state, and process-selection state before condemning the shared power source.
  2. If the power source will not reach a sane idle display or leaves gas open at startup, keep the complaint in the source-side control path before feeder replacement.

2. Powers up but no welding output

  1. If the machine powers up but there is no welding output, prove one healthy process before chasing the failing branch.
  2. If base MIG is still healthy while the remote or spool-gun branch is not, keep the diagnosis in the accessory package instead of treating it as a whole-machine failure.

3. Feed, arc-start, or cut-start problem

  1. Feed, start, or no-output complaints should be split by process. Do not diagnose a MIG-only complaint like a whole-machine failure.
  2. If the remote feeder is blamed but the power-source readouts are frozen or strange, keep the diagnosis in the power-source PCB rather than the feeder.
  3. If gas is stuck open at power-up, treat that as source-side evidence first, not just a hose or feeder symptom.
  4. Spool-gun full-speed feed can come from wrong spool-gun connection or drive-roll branch rather than a dead feeder motor.
  5. Spool-gun full-speed feed with no control is a connection or branch-selection problem before it is a motor failure.

4. Poor arc quality / unstable output

  1. Poor arc quality often comes from wrong process state, wrong polarity, feeder-package mismatch, or spool-gun branch faults before it comes from the shared power source.

5. Gas, air, or consumable related faults

  1. Gas, consumable, and accessory complaints should be isolated to the active process before escalation.
  2. If base MIG is healthy and only the spool-gun or feeder package fails, stop there and use the official parts path before internal source repair.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. If the complaint appears after warm-up or after a process change, inspect utility quality, current-path heating, feeder interconnect stability, and control-state drift before internal repair.
  2. If the machine shuts down after a short weld with flashing or crazy digital display behavior, the workbook points to the power PCB.
