Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify actual 240 V supply and inspect plug, cord, and visible external damage.
  2. Inspect switch condition and remove questionable extension arrangements.
  3. If the unit is dead on verified input, escalate.

2. Powers up but no welding output

  1. Prove the simplest healthy process first, usually stick or basic steel MIG.
  2. If one process is healthy, keep the diagnosis inside the failing process path.
  3. If multiple processes remain abnormal, escalate core inverter diagnosis sooner.

3. Feed or arc-start problem

  1. For MIG complaints, inspect liner, tip, rolls, spool drag, and gun cable bend radius.
  2. For TIG complaints, verify torch, gas, remote, tungsten, and mode selection.
  3. Keep TIG-only complaints out of the feeder branch and MIG-only complaints out of the remote branch.
  4. If feed is smooth with the tip removed, stay in the gun/front-end branch first.

4. Poor arc quality / unstable output

  1. Normalize to a simple steel MIG baseline on known-good wire and gas if the complaint is broad.
  2. Inspect work-return quality, actual gas flow, and output connector temperature under load.
  3. Higher-output prosumer units shift from branch-power complaints toward feeder wear and setup quality.
  4. Keep program/process-state complaints separate from the simplest manual baseline.

5. Gas and consumable related faults

  1. Keep gas and consumable diagnosis with the active process.
  2. Replace worn tips, liners, tungsten, cups, collets, and inspect hose integrity as appropriate.
  3. Gas mismatch or front-end wear often feels like a control fault on feature-rich multiprocess units.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Check fan operation and blocked airflow.
  2. Inspect clamp, gun neck, output connectors, and remote cable after warmup for heat or intermittent connection.
  3. Repeated hot-run instability on known-good power should be escalated.
