Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify the actual input voltage and remove questionable extension cords.
  2. Inspect plug, cord, and switch condition.
  3. If the machine is dead on verified input, escalate.

2. Powers up but no welding output

  1. Prove the simplest process first, usually stick.
  2. If stick is healthy, keep the diagnosis inside the selected process accessories.
  3. If all processes are abnormal, escalate core inverter diagnosis.
  4. If only one process fails, stay in that process path before broader machine assumptions.

3. Feed or arc-start problem

  1. For MIG complaints, remove the tip and test bare-wire feed, then verify gas and polarity.
  2. For TIG complaints, verify lift-TIG setup, gas flow, and tungsten preparation.
  3. Many multiprocess complaints are process-path problems rather than shared machine faults.

4. Poor arc quality / unstable output

  1. Reset to a basic known-good setup in the affected process.
  2. Inspect work return, connector tightness, and supply quality.
  3. If instability spans multiple processes, escalate sooner.
  4. If only one process is unstable, keep the diagnosis in that torch, lead, or gas branch.

5. Gas and consumable related faults

  1. Keep gas and consumables with the affected torch or gun.
  2. Verify actual flow, tip or tungsten condition, and diffuser, cup, or valve fit.
  3. Do not blame the power source for porosity or poor starts until the front end is proven.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Check fan operation and airflow blockage.
  2. Inspect clamp, holder, and MIG torch after load for heat buildup.
  3. Early thermal shutdown on known-good input should be escalated.
