Failure patterns and repair logic

1. Machine behaves irrationally after prior use or after sitting

  1. Perform the documented weld-data reset first.
  2. Retest in a simple known process, preferably short-circuit MIG on clean steel with matched wire and gas.
  3. Do not diagnose complex arc behavior while unknown stored settings remain active.

2. MIG wire-feed problem

  1. Inspect roll selection, pressure-arm tension, wire-guide condition, and gun liner.
  2. Remove the contact tip and confirm whether the feed issue is in the gun path or upstream in the feeder.
  3. If feed issues center on one wire size only, inspect drive-roll and guide alignment before suspecting electronics.
  4. Keep spool-gun assumptions out of the base-machine diagnosis until the stock gun path is proven healthy.

3. Unstable weld quality

  1. Simplify the machine: basic mode, baseline wire, baseline gas, clean work return, and no unnecessary saved-program assumptions.
  2. Confirm polarity matches the active wire type.
  3. Check supply voltage and eliminate long undersized cords.
  4. Only after that should sMIG or other advanced-parameter behavior be treated as causal.

4. Error code or graphics fault

  1. Record the exact code or display behavior.
  2. Power cycle and perform the documented reset path.
  3. If the fault persists in a stripped-baseline setup, escalate with the exact code and repeat conditions documented.

5. No power

  1. Verify branch circuit and plug integrity.
  2. If the unit sat for long periods, inspect for contamination, insect ingress, or obvious connector corrosion before further energizing.
  3. If still dead on verified power, escalate rather than guessing at internal fuse or board replacement.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Inspect fan operation, airflow path, and duty-cycle context.
  2. Check plug, clamp, and front connections for heat after a short load test.
  3. If the machine stabilizes only after reset but fails again under normal use, capture the exact process, settings state, and input voltage before escalation.
