Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify actual outlet voltage and remove questionable extension-cord arrangements.
  2. Inspect plug, cord, switch, and visible external damage.
  3. If the machine is dead on verified input, escalate.

2. Powers up but no welding output

  1. Prove the simplest process first, usually stick or flux-core.
  2. If one process is healthy, keep the diagnosis in the failing path.
  3. If multiple processes remain abnormal, escalate sooner because the fault may be shared.
  4. If the complaint exists only in gas MIG or TIG mode, keep the diagnosis in that accessory and setup branch before condemning the machine.

3. Feed, arc-start, or cut-start problem

  1. Inspect wire path, tip, liner, roll pressure, and spool drag for MIG complaints.
  2. Keep TIG complaints separate from MIG feeder complaints and verify torch, gas-valve torch setup, and clamp path.
  3. If stick or TIG alone is affected, focus on setup and leads rather than the feeder path.
  4. Use the bare-wire feed test to separate mechanical drag from current-path problems.

4. Poor arc quality / unstable output

  1. Treat supply quality as the first branch.
  2. Compare the complaint to rated thickness and process limits before assuming a machine fault.
  3. Entry-level multiprocess machines are usually limited more by branch power and setup drift than by failed electronics.
  4. If only one process is poor, stay in that process branch rather than broadening to the entire machine.

5. Gas and consumable related faults

  1. If running MIG with gas, verify cylinder contents and actual flow.
  2. Replace worn tips, nozzle parts, tungsten, or cups as appropriate.
  3. Keep TIG gas-path faults separate from MIG wire-path faults.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Check fan operation and blocked airflow.
  2. Inspect hot plug blades, clamp jaws, and gun or holder connections after load.
  3. Repeated trips or shutdown on a clean dedicated branch should be escalated.
