Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify actual input supply and inspect plug, cord, or disconnect condition.
  2. Inspect visible external damage and airflow path.
  3. If the machine is dead on verified power, escalate.

2. Powers up but no welding output

  1. Confirm material, gas, and wire diameter are correctly selected.
  2. Reset to a conservative steel MIG baseline if the complaint is vague.
  3. If TIG or MMA alone are affected, isolate the lead and accessory path instead of treating the whole machine as defective.
  4. If the complaint disappears when the machine is reduced to plain steel MIG, keep the diagnosis in process state and setup first.

3. Feed problem

  1. Inspect roll pressure, liner, tip, and spool drag.
  2. Replace worn consumables before suspecting the feeder.
  3. Keep compact-feeder wear separate from gas- or program-related arc complaints.
  4. If feed improves with the tip removed, stay in the front-end and feeder branch first.

4. Poor arc quality / unstable output

  1. Keep installation issues separate from process-path issues.
  2. Normalize to a plain steel MIG baseline before judging synergic behavior.
  3. Inspect work-return quality and connector temperature under load.
  4. If only TIG or MMA is affected, keep the diagnosis in that process path instead of the shared machine.

5. Gas and consumable related faults

  1. Verify actual gas flow and gas type for the selected process state.
  2. Replace worn tips, diffusers, nozzles, tungsten, or cups as appropriate.
  3. Fronius compact systems are sensitive to wrong program state when gas, wire, or material selections do not align.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Check fan operation and blocked airflow.
  2. Inspect hot output connectors, work-return hardware, and feeder path after warmup.
  3. Repeated instability after baseline normalization and installation checks should be escalated.
