Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify actual outlet voltage and remove questionable extension-cord arrangements.
  2. Inspect plug, cord, switch, and visible external damage.
  3. If the unit is dead on verified input, escalate.

2. Powers up but no welding output

  1. Prove the simplest process first, usually stick or flux-core.
  2. If one process is healthy, keep the diagnosis in the failing process path.
  3. If multiple processes remain abnormal, escalate sooner because a shared fault is more likely.
  4. If the complaint changes immediately when moved to a better branch, keep the diagnosis in the utility path first.

3. Feed, arc-start, or cut-start problem

  1. Treat supply quality as the first branch on this machine.
  2. Inspect drive system, tip, liner, and roll pressure for MIG or flux-core complaints.
  3. If lift-TIG alone is affected, focus on torch, gas, and clamp setup rather than the feeder path.
  4. If feed improves with the tip removed, stay in the torch path and consumables branch.

4. Poor arc quality / unstable output

  1. Compare the complaint to the machine's light-duty range before assuming a machine fault.
  2. Use a plain steel baseline and verify work-return quality.
  3. Small multiprocess units are especially prone to setup and branch-power complaints.
  4. Do not treat thicker-material disappointment on weak 120 V branches as an electronics failure.

5. Gas and consumable related faults

  1. If running MIG with gas, verify cylinder contents and actual flow.
  2. Replace worn tips, nozzles, tungsten, or cups as appropriate.
  3. Keep lift-TIG gas-path faults separate from MIG wire-path faults.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Check fan operation and blocked airflow.
  2. Inspect hot plug blades, clamp jaws, and gun or holder connections after load.
  3. Repeated trips or shutdown on a dedicated branch should be escalated.
