Failure patterns and repair logic

1. Dead or unstable machine

  1. Verify actual line voltage and circuit quality before any machine-level conclusion.
  2. Inspect plug blades, adapters, and receptacle grip for heating or looseness.
  3. If the machine is dead or unstable on verified direct line power, stop before speculative internal work and escalate.

2. MIG feed and arc complaints

  1. Match wire size to the correct drive-roll groove and contact tip.
  2. Remove the tip and test feed. If the feed improves, replace the tip and inspect for burnback or wire-size mismatch.
  3. Check spool drag, liner condition, drive-roll pressure, and inlet-guide alignment.
  4. Confirm polarity after any switch between solid wire and self-shielded flux-cored wire.

3. Weak output or nuisance breaker trips

  1. Compare the complaint to the actual input voltage in use. This model behaves very differently on 120 V and 230 V.
  2. Eliminate power strips and undersized extension cords.
  3. Move to a known-good 230 V circuit before condemning the machine for thick-material or higher-output complaints.
  4. If the machine still feels weak on verified 230 V with clean current path and baseline settings, broaden to internal diagnosis.

4. TIG or stick mode does not work

  1. Confirm the process actually changed in the UI and the output leads were moved for the required polarity.
  2. Verify the TIG accessory package is complete and the gas path is active.
  3. If MIG is healthy but stick or TIG is not, stay in the setup, lead-placement, or accessory path before suspecting the core power source.

5. Display or control issues

  1. Record whether the display fault occurs cold or only after extended welding.
  2. Check airflow, ambient temperature, and supply quality first.
  3. If the display goes dark or freezes on solid line power after warmup, escalate with the exact duty-cycle and supply conditions recorded.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Inspect fan operation and airflow restrictions.
  2. Check plug, receptacle, clamp, and front output connections for abnormal heating after a short load test.
  3. If cooling restores function but the supply path stays normal, treat it as an internal thermal or control problem and escalate.
