Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify actual input voltage and remove questionable extension arrangements.
  2. Inspect plug, cord, switch, and visible external damage.
  3. If the machine is dead on verified power, escalate.

2. Powers up but no output in one or more processes

  1. Diagnose plasma, TIG, and stick as separate branches from the start.
  2. If only one process fails, stay on that subsystem rather than treating the entire machine as defective.
  3. If multiple processes are abnormal, escalate shared inverter diagnosis sooner.
  4. If the complaint disappears when only one clean process branch is left connected, keep the diagnosis in the accessory path first.

3. Feed, arc-start, or cut-start problem

  1. In the plasma branch, check air pressure, consumable stack, work clamp, and torch cap.
  2. In the TIG branch, confirm lead polarity, gas path, torch setup, and switch/pedal expectations if applicable.
  3. In the stick branch, verify holder, clamp, and supply quality.
  4. Combo units are frequently misdiagnosed because accessories or hoses remain connected for the wrong process.

4. Poor arc quality / unstable output

  1. Reduce the machine to one process at a time with a minimal known-good setup.
  2. Inspect work-return quality, connector tightness, and actual input voltage under load.
  3. If only plasma is poor, stay in the air/consumable branch. If only TIG is poor, stay in gas/torch diagnostics.

5. Gas, air, or consumable related faults

  1. Keep plasma air-path faults and TIG gas-path faults separate.
  2. Verify actual dry air flow for plasma and actual gas flow for TIG.
  3. Replace worn plasma consumables, tungsten, cups, collets, or back caps as appropriate.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Check fan operation and blocked airflow.
  2. Inspect hot torch leads, clamp hardware, and front-panel connections after warmup.
  3. Faults that persist with known-good air, gas, and accessories should be escalated.
