Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify actual input voltage and remove questionable extension arrangements.
  2. Inspect plug, cord, switch, and visible external damage.
  3. If the machine is dead on verified input, escalate.

2. Powers up but no welding output

  1. Prove the simplest process first, usually stick or basic steel MIG.
  2. If one process is healthy, keep the diagnosis inside the failing process path.
  3. If multiple processes remain abnormal, escalate core inverter diagnosis sooner.
  4. If the complaint disappears when the machine is reduced to one plain baseline process, keep the diagnosis in setup and accessory state first.

3. Feed, arc-start, or cut-start problem

  1. For MIG complaints, remove the tip and test bare-wire feed, then verify gas and polarity.
  2. For TIG complaints, inspect torch, gas flow, tungsten, and remote/torch-switch behavior.
  3. Compact multiprocess machines are often misdiagnosed because users mix process-specific faults together.
  4. If feed improves with the tip removed, stay in the torch path and consumables branch first.

4. Poor arc quality / unstable output

  1. Reset the affected process to a conservative baseline.
  2. Inspect work-return quality, connector tightness, and line-voltage stability.
  3. If instability spans all processes, escalate sooner.
  4. If only one process is unstable, keep the diagnosis in that accessory and lead branch instead of the whole machine.

5. Gas and consumable related faults

  1. Keep gas and consumable diagnosis with the process in use.
  2. Verify actual gas flow, tip/tungsten condition, and front-end hardware.
  3. Porosity or poor starts usually belong to the torch or gun path first.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Check fan operation and blocked airflow.
  2. Inspect clamp, holder, and gun connections after load for heat buildup.
  3. Repeated thermal or fault behavior under normal use is an escalation point.
