Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify actual input voltage and remove questionable extension arrangements.
  2. Inspect plug, cord, and visible external damage.
  3. If the unit is dead on verified input, escalate.

2. Powers up but no plasma output

  1. Check work clamp placement and consumable stack order.
  2. Verify cap tightness and torch readiness.
  3. If the unit still will not start, separate torch/cap issues from compressor or power issues.
  4. If the complaint changes immediately after a fresh cap/consumable set, stay in the torch branch first.

3. Start or transfer problem

  1. Separate no-pilot from no-transfer behavior.
  2. If pilot exists but transfer fails, inspect clamp location and workpiece condition first.
  3. If pilot is absent, keep the first branch in cap seating, consumable stack, and built-in-air readiness.
  4. If the complaint follows long duty cycle or poor cooldown, keep the diagnosis in the built-in-air/cooling branch.

4. Poor cut quality / unstable output

  1. Inspect electrode and nozzle condition.
  2. Check technique: pierce distance, travel speed, and material thickness.
  3. Confirm whether the job is being attempted on 120 V or 240 V.
  4. As with other dual-voltage portable cutters, 120 V expectations must be kept realistic.

5. Gas, air, or consumable related faults

  1. The built-in compressor removes shop-air variables but introduces internal air-system considerations such as airflow blockage and compressor cooldown behavior.
  2. Replace worn consumables and keep torch-front-end condition in the first branch.
  3. Persistent compressor-related faults after simple checks should be escalated.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Verify airflow around the machine and allow full cooldown before retest.
  2. Inspect torch lead, plug blades, and clamp cable for heat buildup.
  3. Repeated compressor or thermal behavior with known-good cap and consumables should be escalated.
