Failure patterns and repair logic

1. Start issues

  1. Verify work clamp placement on clean parent metal.
  2. Inspect torch cap and consumable stack.
  3. Check torch lead connection.
  4. If the machine still will not fire, separate air-supply issues from torch/cap issues before deeper diagnosis.

2. Cut-quality issues

  1. Use the correct consumables for the job, including FineCut where appropriate.
  2. Replace worn nozzle and electrode.
  3. Verify dry clean air and proper standoff/travel speed.
  4. If the complaint only appears with FineCut, keep the diagnosis in consumable choice and technique before machine suspicion.

3. Input-voltage complaints

  1. Capture whether the machine is on 120 V or 240 V.
  2. Move to 240 V before treating thickness-limit complaints as faults.
  3. Treat branch-power loss separately from true plasma-output faults.

4. Air and clamp complaints

  1. Drain the air system and verify inlet pressure under flow, not just static pressure.
  2. Inspect the work clamp location and spring tension because poor return path can look like a no-start fault.
  3. If cut quality improves immediately with dry air and fresh consumables, stop the diagnosis there instead of escalating.

5. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Check fan operation and blocked airflow.
  2. Inspect torch lead strain, hot connectors, and air starvation during sustained cuts.
  3. Repeated faults with known-good air and consumables should be escalated.
