Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify input-source voltage and phase and inspect plug or disconnect condition.
  2. Inspect cord or input leads and visible external damage.
  3. If the unit is dead on verified source power, escalate.

2. Powers up but no plasma output

  1. Confirm ready state with clean, dry air.
  2. Reseat the consumable stack and inspect the retaining cap.
  3. Clamp to clean parent metal and inspect the work-return path.
  4. If ready state is normal but output is absent, escalate after torch and air checks.

3. Start or transfer problem

  1. Separate no-pilot from no-transfer behavior.
  2. If pilot exists but transfer fails, inspect clamp and workpiece coating first.
  3. If pilot is absent, keep the first branch in air and consumable readiness.

4. Poor cut quality or unstable output

  1. Retest on clean mild steel with conservative travel speed and proper standoff.
  2. Replace worn consumables and verify air dryness and flow.
  3. If only mechanized cuts are poor, inspect torch height, alignment, and setup rather than the power source.

5. Gas, air, or consumable related faults

  1. Inspect filters, dryers, drains, and actual compressor output under flow.
  2. Replace suspect nozzle, electrode, shield, and cap components.
  3. Wet air and wrong torch configuration commonly mimic machine failure.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Check fan operation and blocked airflow.
  2. Inspect torch lead, clamp cable, and plug or disconnect hardware for heating.
  3. Repeated hot-run faults with known-good air and source should be escalated.
