Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify actual input voltage and remove questionable extension or adapter arrangements.
  2. Inspect plug, cord, switch, and visible external damage.
  3. If the machine is dead on verified input, escalate.

2. Powers up but no plasma output

  1. Replace the consumable front end with known-good SG-55 parts.
  2. Clamp to bright parent metal and inspect the work-return path.
  3. Verify dry air and adequate flow under cutting demand.
  4. If there is still no output with known-good air and consumables, escalate.

3. Feed, arc-start, or cut-start problem

  1. Keep the diagnosis in torch start behavior, air path, and clamp path first.
  2. This model uses a touch-and-lift start style, so poor technique or a damaged front end can look like machine failure.
  3. If the torch only starts erratically with one set of consumables or one power source, keep the diagnosis on that branch.

4. Poor arc quality / unstable output

  1. Retest on clean mild steel with new consumables.
  2. Confirm dry air and appropriate travel speed.
  3. If the complaint exists mainly on 120 V, separate reduced cutting envelope from true instability.
  4. Weak cut complaints on this class of machine usually belong to air, consumables, or supply quality before electronics.

5. Gas, air, or consumable related faults

  1. Verify air quality, dryness, and flow.
  2. Replace worn nozzle and electrode.
  3. Keep drag-start torch wear and bad clamp contact ahead of internal-fault assumptions.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Check airflow and recent duty-cycle use.
  2. Inspect hot plug blades, hot clamp hardware, and torch-front-end heat damage.
  3. If the machine trips or loses output from a cold start with known-good air and consumables, escalate.
